King George VI Lift Bridge Maintenance Work

The County of Elgin will be undertaking maintenance work on the King George VI Lift Bridge from Wednesday, February 15, 2023, through to Friday, February 17, 2023. As a result, the Lift Bridge will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic for the duration of this maintenance work. The Lift Bridge will reopen to vehicular and pedestrian traffic on Saturday, February 18, 2023.

Elgin County hosts multi-agency training exercise

On December 14, 2022, Elgin County hosted a multi-agency emergency management exercise involving a fictitious cyber attack and a presentation from industry expert Dave Colvin which detailed the changing landscape of emergency management in Ontario. The event included more than 85 participants from local municipalities and other agencies and provided staff from the County of Elgin, Town of Aylmer, Municipality of Bayham, Municipality of Dutton Dunwich, Township of Southwold, Township of Malahide, and the Municipality of West Elgin with a critical opportunity to review and practice their respective Emergency Management Plans with support agencies.

Ed Ketchabaw Elected as Elgin County Warden

Elgin County Council elected Ed Ketchabaw, Mayor of the Municipality of Bayham, as Elgin’s Warden during its inaugural meeting held December 6, 2022. Warden Ketchabaw now serves as the head of Elgin County Council for the 2023 governance year, representing the first year of Council’s four-year term.

Clachan Road Bridge Closure over the Thames River

Contractors working on the Clachan Road Bridge Rehabilitation Project on the border of West Elgin & Chatham-Kent have worked diligently over the past eight (8) months to complete this project. Due to labour and material shortages and challenges relating to the bridge’s original construction, the initial completion date has been pushed back to the first week in December.

The County of Elgin will be undertaking maintenance work on the King George VI Lift Bridge on Sunday, October 16th, 2022. As a result, the Lift Bridge will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 16th.

Elgin County Raises Child Cancer Awareness Flag

On Wednesday, September 14th, Elgin County Warden Mary French proclaimed September as Child Cancer Awareness Month within the County of Elgin. Warden French, alongside representatives from Childcan, raised the Child Cancer Awareness flag at the County’s Administration Building to mark the occasion.

Elgin County Council – August Meeting Cancellation & December Date Change

The County of Elgin has cancelled the Tuesday, August 23, 2022 County Council Meeting that was scheduled for 9:00 a.m. The next scheduled meeting of County Council will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 9:00 a.m.
The first County Council Meeting in December has been rescheduled to Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 9:00 a.m.

Elgin County Homes to host Three Job Fairs

The County of Elgin is hosting three (3) Job Fairs to recruit for PSWs, RPNs, RNs, and Dietary Aides/Cooks within each of the three (3) County owned Long-Term Care Homes: Bobier Villa (Dutton, ON), Elgin Manor (Fingal, ON) & Terrace Lodge (Aylmer, ON). These job fairs are being held off-site on August 16th, 18th, and September 15th where there will be on-the-spot job interviews with same-day conditional job offers.
