Elgin County Library Launches New Children’s Audiobook Players and Cards

COUNTY OF ELGIN — Elgin County Library is pleased to announce the launch of two new collections: Yoto Bundles (Yoto Player + curated cards) and Yoto Cards. The purpose of this pilot project is to bring a new and exciting screen-free smart audio player, the Yoto Player, to young children to engage them in reading in an audiobook format.

Yoto Players give children the opportunity to independently play audiobooks by inserting a Yoto Card into the player to listen aloud or with headphones. Yoto Players also have simple controls for ease of access for children. In addition, Yoto Cards can be played on your mobile device by using Near Field Communication (NFC) the Yoto app. (Video)

Yoto Players have been purchased to circulate throughout Elgin County Library branches. These players have each been bundled by reading age groups. Check out individual Yoto Cards for use with your mobile device (using NFC technology) or your own Yoto Player. Also, five additional Players and “Create Your Own” Yoto Cards will be used by library staff for programs such as storytimes and outreach visits.

“Our family borrowed a Yoto Player from our local library branch earlier this year. It was such an easy process to reserve a player as well as some accompanying cards through the library’s online catalogue. With a wide variety of cards to choose from, it was easy to find books that were age appropriate for our daughter. My husband and I love that the Yoto Player is simple enough for our two-year-old to navigate on her own. Thank you to the Elgin County Library for continuing to provide our family with modern day resources to continue our love of reading.” – Jessica Silcox, Local Parent

Yoto Bundles and Yoto Cards are available as a special collection to borrow with your Elgin County Library card. Place a hold for pickup, or call your local Elgin County Library branch for more details.
