For Immediate Release

Central Elgin, ON – At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Thursday February 17, Malahide Fire Services responded to an equipment fire at Terrace Lodge Long-Term Care Home in Malahide Township. The facility is currently under redevelopment and the fire was located at the construction site which is external to the Long-Term Care Home. There were no injuries.

Residents in the Lower North wing were relocated within the building as a precaution, on the advice of the Fire Department. Residents returned to their area within the hour.

“I would like to sincerely thank the emergency responders on the Malahide Fire Department, Elgin St. Thomas EMS, and the OPP for their quick response, and to the Aylmer Fire Department that was available for mutual aide should it have been needed,” said Warden Mary French. “The role of emergency responders in our community is critical and I am proud to live in a community with so many dedicated professionals. I would also like to thank the staff at the County of Elgin and Terrace Lodge in particular, who calmly and confidently handled this matter. I am thankful that everyone is safe.”

Damage was limited to equipment and the redevelopment site was not affected.
