Current Computer Use Due to COVID-19 (Updated June 9, 2021)

Effective Monday, June 14, all Elgin County Library branches will offer Curbside Pickup service as well as in-branch computer use and printing, photocopying, faxing, and scanning services as part of Step One of the province’s Roadmap to Reopen due to COVID-19. Extended wifi (outside branches) and mobile printing services are also available. Please see our Curbside Plus web page for more information about available services.

Public Computers:

Each Elgin County Library branch has computer stations, Early Literacy stations, and assistive technology stations available for public use inside the branch.

  • Computer use requires a valid library card and allows access for one hour per day, extendable to two hours per day if other customers are not waiting. Maximum usage of computer stations shall be two hours per day per patron.
  • By using your Library card you are agreeing to our Online Services Policy & Procedure.
  • Visitors may register for a temporary guest card user card upon presentation of identification. (This visitor card can be used for accessing public computer stations and the wireless network and must be returned at the end of the session.) 
  • All personal information and working documents are cleared after the computer session ends. Customers are responsible for saving their own materials to a private device, such as a USB stick.
  • Software provided on the computer stations, which are Windows machines, includes web browsers, Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher) and Adobe Reader.
  • An accessible public computer station with assistive technologies is also available at each branch. This station has ZoomText, as well as a large print keyboard.
  • Early literacy stations are also available for use at each branch.
  • An iMac computer station is available as part of each our Makerspaces at the Aylmer and Dutton branches. Software provided includes web browsers and creative software and tools.

Computer Use During COVID-19:

  • When Library branches are open for interior service, computer use is available by appointment in advance or by walk-up if a computer station is available for use. 
  • Appointment bookings can be made by calling or emailing your branch or in person and by using your Library card. Customers may book one session per day, with the opportunity for advance booking.
  • Appointments are limited to 30 minutes in length, with 15 minutes required for sanitizing purposes between each session.
  • Sessions will not be extended and sessions are limited to one per day, or at the discretion of the branch staff based on session availability and customers waiting.
  • Computer stations can be booked by anyone aged 12+. Younger patrons must use the computer with an adult. A maximum of two people per station is permitted if from the same household. 
  • A mask or face covering is required when inside the branch, and using the computer stations. Please see Elgin County’s Face Covering By-Law, consolidated version, here. Additional COVID-19 health and safety measures will be followed in-branch by staff, as directed by Southwestern Public Health.

Wifi (Available 24/7 Outside Branches):

Wifi or wireless Internet services are available from each Elgin County Library branch, both inside (when open) and outside each branch.

  1. Browse to available wireless Internet networks in your device settings and select a_ElginCounty_Library.
  2. You will be prompted with a Log In screen. Enter an ID and choose one that is difficult for others to guess.
  3. By selecting “Accept” at the bottom, you agree to the terms of use and our Public Internet Policy & Procedure displayed. 
  4. A welcome message will display, indicating your minutes of usage remaining and printers available at the branch. 
  5. Close this message and launch your preferred web browser and you are ready to start searching.

Printing:

Printing services are available from each Elgin County Library branch. 

  • Black and white or coloured ink printing is available from computer stations in each branch in both letter and legal paper sizes. The cost for printing is $0.25 per printed side, for both black and white and coloured ink print jobs.
  • Print jobs sent from public computers will be released by branch staff at the Check Out or Circulation Desk. At this desk, staff will accept cash payment or will add charges to your Library account as needed in lieu of payment at that time.

Mobile Printing:

Mobile or wireless printing services are available from each Elgin County Library branch. Send print jobs wirelessly in a variety of different ways, and then pick up the print job when the branch is open or at Curbside Pickup.

How to Print from Your Mobile Device:

  1. Download the PrinterOn app.
  2. Open the app and use the magnifying glass to select your printer. Type in “ECL- Your Branch Name” and choose your preference of black and white or double-sided. 
  3. Upload a saved file, photo or website following app directions.

How to Print from Your Laptop or Desktop Computer:

  1. Go to https://www.printeron.net/ecl/your branch name.
  2. Select your printer, enter your email address, then upload your file or photo by browsing. Click the green printer icon to submit.
  3. NOTE: When selecting your preferred printing format, BW = black and white, DS = double-sided

How to Print an Existing Email Message:

  1. Forward your existing email message to one of your branch’s email addresses. It will print the email plus any attachments.
  2. Each branch has an email address for the following: black and white, single-sided; black and white, double-sided; colour, single-sided; colour, double-sided.

Photocopying, Scanning & Faxing:

Photocopying, scanning and faxing services are available from each Elgin County Library branch. 

  • Photocopying, scanning and faxing services are available from photocopiers in each branch in both letter and legal paper sizes. The cost for  photocopying is $0.25 per printed side, for both black and white and coloured ink copying jobs. The cost for sending a fax is $1.50 for the first page, and $0.50 for each additional page. Receiving a fax costs $0.50 per page. Scanning is free of charge.
  • These services will be performed by branch staff at the Check Out or Circulation Desk. At this desk, staff will accept cash payment or will add charges to your Library account as needed in lieu of payment at that time.

Photocopying, Scanning & Faxing During COVID-19:
