Elgin County Warden’s Charity Gala Raises $27,859

For Immediate Release

Central Elgin, ON – On April 29th, 2022, Elgin County Warden, Mary French, hosted a charity gala in support of the Terrace Lodge Fundraising Campaign. Held at the Aylmer Old Town Hall and Aylmer Library, this gala raised an impressive $27,859.

This event celebrated the ‘These Hands: Touching Memoirs of Seniors Living in our Community’ book which features the hands of 56 individuals living within Elgin County. With the flip of each page, this publication provides readers with the courageous adventures, tear-jerking love stories, triumphs and tribulations, and the livelihoods of the hands behind each thoughtfully curated black and white photograph.

Attendees of the gala were able to peruse 56 canvas prints of the hands featured in the book while mingling with like-minded individuals from the community. A number of these prints were also auctioned off to eventgoers to display within their own homes and to act as a reminder that their own hands are currently curating their stories.

“Words cannot describe how immensely grateful I am for the many hands that made this gala a success,” said Warden Mary French. “Hosting this event was near and dear to my heart, and the money raised will help to strengthen the future of our Long-Term Care Homes within Elgin County; a top priority for this term of Council. I cannot thank staff enough for their dedication to this project, the individuals that opened their hearts and shared their stories, and the gala attendees, sponsors, and donors for supporting such an important cause within our community, the redevelopment of Terrace Lodge.”

Originally built in 1977, the Terrace Lodge Long-Term Care Home, located in Malahide Township, Elgin County is currently undergoing redevelopment. Scheduled to be completed in 2024, this redevelopment has been designed to better meet the intricate needs of Long-Term Care residents now and well into the future.

The ‘These Hands’ book and the 56 canvas prints were made possible through funding received by the Elgin County Homes from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).
