Terrace Lodge Staff Tests Positive For COVID-19 - January 9

For Immediate Release

[Elgin County, Ontario] –Elgin County was recently notified that a staff member at Terrace Lodge Long-Term Care Home (LTCH) has tested positive for COVID-19 through routine weekly surveillance testing. This brings the total number of active impacted staff members to two (2). Previously reported staff cases are now resolved.

All staff members are following public health direction and protocols and are self-isolating at home. At this time, County officials are not aware of any additional staff or resident cases of COVID-19 in any of Elgin’s three (3) Long-Term Care Homes.
The outbreak declared at Elgin Manor LTCH on December 23, 2020 involving two (2) positive resident cases is now resolved.

County staff continue to work closely with Southwestern Public Health (SWPH) on outbreak management and to identify close contacts of the staff member who recently tested positive. Residents, staff and community members who are determined to be at risk are being contacted to prevent further spread of illness in the Home or in the community. County Homes staff remain steadfast in their commitment to resident care and continue to implement all available measures to decrease the risk of spreading the virus within our three (3) LTCHs. Staff closely
monitor residents and employees for symptoms of COVID-19 and all Long-Term Care Home residents are being closely monitored by our medical team.

“The staff member who has tested positive works in an area where there is minimal resident contact,” said Warden Tom Marks. “We continue to proceed cautiously and staff have the commitment of Elgin County Council to take all measures available to them to protect our residents and staff from COVID-19 in Elgin’s Long-Term Care Homes”.

At this time, Bobier Villa and Elgin Manor LTCHs do not have any positive cases among residents or staff. Regular updates and changes to visitor restrictions will be provided to residents, families and caregivers.
