James Henry Coyne
James Henry Coyne (1849-1942) was registrar of Deeds for the County of Elgin from 1888 to 1932. A founder and President of the Elgin Historical and Scientific Institute, and a President of the Ontario Historical Society, Coyne was one of the fathers of the study of local history in Canada. He was a member and President of the Royal Society of Canada and used its "Transactions" to edit and publish the "Talbot Papers" in 1907 and 1909. When Coyne died, he was nationally known as a scholar and gentleman.
Registry Office

The Registry Office in December 2013, prior to the reopening of the Provincial Courthouse and Registry Office complex in March 2014.
The Registry Office brickwork and historical features were restored and the building is now connected to the Courthouse to provide accessibility for all patrons.
The building now houses the Courthouse Law Library.
