Neil R. Darrach

Neil R. Darrach was born in Southwold Township, on April 17, 1850. He was a son of Neil Darrach Sr. and his wife Mary Mitchell (1824-1912). Neil and Mary were married in Middlesex District on February 15, 1844. Neil was a native of Islay, Neil R. DarrachScotland and Mary was a native Argyleshire, Scotland.

For some time, the family resided near Caradoc in Middlesex County. Neil Sr. died sometime between 1863 and 1871. On the 1871 Census, his wife Mary is listed with their nine children. The three eldest boys, John, Neil and Robert were listed as a school teacher, joiner and store clerk respectively.

On December 6, 1879, Neil R. Darrach married Mary Ann Mulholland, daughter of Ira and Mary Mulholland of Oakville. He was listed as a “builder” on their marriage registration.

At least four children were born to Neil and Mary Ann. Their children were Albert Morley (b. 1877), Mabel (b.1878), Robert (1883) and Roy (1885). On each of their birth registrations Neil was listed as either a carpenter or a builder.
