The Shedden Public Library joined the Elgin County Library System in 1936 but discontinued their membership in 1939. The library then joined the Elgin County library Co-operative in March of 1949.

The owner of the small building where the library was housed forced the library board to find another home in 1950. Since no buildings were available, a local merchant named Mr. L.D. Palmer offered the board a room in the rear of his store. Later, the books were moved into another room which was formerly the post office in Mr. Palmer's building. The Shedden Public Library became the Shedden branch of the Elgin County Library in 1966. In 1967 the Township of Southwold purchased the building and property formerly occupied by the library. It was renovated and the library re-opened in 1968.

In December 1984, the library reopened in a newly constructed building at the same location of Highway 3 and County Road 20.
