Collection Donations
As part of our mission to promote, preserve, exhibit, and interpret artifacts pertaining to the history of the County of Elgin, Elgin County Museum does accept donations to the collection. Please read the Donation Policy before contacting the Museum with inquiries regarding possible donations. Please note that items will not be accepted without a signed Deed and an in-person interview.
Please be advised the Elgin County Museum has placed a temporary hold on artifact acquisitions. We are happy to review photos and information regarding the objects you are considering donating, just send us an email with these details, and we will respond to your donation inquiry. If this is a general information inquiry or an inquiry regarding exhibits, please contact the Elgin County Heritage Centre, 519-631-1460 ext. 193.
Does your donation belong with Elgin County Museum or Elgin County Archives?
Elgin County Museum has a close relationship with Elgin County Archives, in fact our collections database is part of the Archives’ database! How to know if your items belong with the Museum or with the Archives?
Items that should be donated to the Archives collection include historical records and documents (like newspapers, photographs, diaries). Items that should be donated to the Museum’s collection include objects of historical importance, but not paper documents or paper historical records.
Monetary Donations
Elgin County Museum is a registered charity and a donation can be made as a one-time donation or as a recurring one. Your donation will help us to expand and improve our facilities and equipment, provide innovative programming and promote our valuable collection to all Canadians.
