Restorative Nursing Care

The County of Elgin homes encourage residents to remain as independent as possible. All members of the care team work alongside the resident to ensure they are reaching their full potential.

Medical Director, Physician

Each County of Elgin home has an acting Medical Director.  The Medical Director is a Physician who provides guidance to the home in relation to the following:

  • Medical care standards and requirements
  • Consultation and support as needed
  • Consultation regarding the quality of services provided to the residents

Physician Services

Physician services are provided by the home.  The home Physician will provide each resident with an annual physical exam, emergency services and regular weekly visits as required.  The home Physician will ensure a medication review is completed a minimum of quarterly (every three months).

Primary medical care is provided to all residents in the home.  Supportive hospital care is provided at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital or London and area hospitals if necessary.

Specialist referrals will be made at the direction of the Physician.

Pharmacy Services

Pharmacy services are provided to each of the County of Elgin homes.  Resident medication is ordered by a Physician and administered by a Registered Nursing staff.

The Pharmacy provider provides medication risk assessments and consultation to the staff, residents and family members.
