Interlibrary Loan

The process of borrowing and lending items to other library systems throughout the province is a service known as Interlibrary Loans (ILLO). If Elgin County Library does not own a title you want to borrow, visit your library branch and ask staff to request the item for you through ILLO.

F.A.Q.s

Visit your local library and ask staff to request an item for you through ILLO.

Any individual may request an interlibrary loan provided they have an Elgin County Library card and fewer than $20 in fines.

There is no cost associated with this service unless specified by the lending library.

The following materials are not available to request through interlibrary loan:

  • Books published in the last or current calendar year
  • Board Books
  • Book Club Kits
  • DVDs
  • Music CDs
  • Mass Media Paperbacks
  • Picture Books

You can submit up to 5 interlibrary loan requests at any given time. Once 5 requests are active, no further requests will be accepted.

If you are registered as a home school patron, you may request up to 20 interlibrary loan items at any given time.

The interlibrary loan process can take several weeks to fulfill depending upon the availability of the item and where it is being shipped.
