October is Canadian Library Month! During the month, libraries and library partners across Canada raise awareness of libraries’ valuable role in the lives of people in Canada. Keep reading to find out how we’re celebrating here at Elgin County Library!

Libraries aren’t just for books — they’re for life.

Did you know Elgin County Library offers access to 11 databases, 4 ebook/eAudiobook/eMagazine/film/tv platforms, and hundreds of e-learning courses to all cardholders? Get your library card this Ontario Public Library Week and get access to all these resources and more at your local library.

From your first story time to discovering new hobbies in retirement — your local library is with you every step of the way.

This Ontario Public Library Week, we’re proud to celebrate how our library supports people at every stage of life:

Last year, we hosted 673 early literacy programs for children ages 0–5 — helping parents and caregivers build strong foundations for learning.

We ran 833 programs for children 6–12, from STEAM learning to creative arts, empowering curiosity and confidence.

With 98 teen-focused programs, we gave youth a space to explore identity, passions, and possibilities.

Our 578 adult programs supported job seekers, hobbyists, and lifelong learners alike — because learning doesn’t end after school.

We hosted 313 programs for older adults, offering connection and community.

Visit your local branch this week and discover all the ways your library is there for life.

We’re celebrating with our Bring Your Overdue Books Back program all week

October 18 to October 25, all Library items you return to any of our 10 branches, will be checked back in, with all and any fines forgiven. No questions asked.

At the end of the day, we just want the items back so that someone else can borrow them. And we want you to be able to borrow more items!

So #BYOBB to celebrate Ontario Public Library Week with us. We can’t wait to see you!
