Read Diverse for June
June is a time to celebrate all kinds of diversity and we’re excited to show you all that we have to offer. Diversebooks.org is a fabulous resource for diversifying your reading and why it matters. Scroll down for some booklists on just a few diverse identities to find your next great read!
We challenge you to read diversely this month! Diversity in books is important because it reflects the wider world and its complexities, providing readers with representation, empathy, and a broader understanding of different cultures and experiences. Diverse books can be both a mirror to those who are able to see themselves reflected in the story, and windows into different human experiences and emotions that we might not be familiar with.
And its easy to do! This month we challenge you to read a book that includes one of these:
- a book written by someone different than you,
- a book set in a different culture,
- a book with characters who are different than you,
- a combination of any of these!
We’ve got some suggestions to help you get started and you can always ask any ECL staff member for help finding something different to read this month!
