Respite Program

The Respite Program provides a period of relief for people who are responsible for the ongoing care of an adult or senior. Individuals may require a break or assistance to meet a loved ones ongoing care needs. Some individuals may need additional assistance as they recover following an illness or surgery.  The program is intended to give the caregiver an opportunity for a break in their care routine to re-energize, in order to resume their role.

Respite care can be accessed for up to 90 days per year, for short periods of time such as a weekend, or for longer periods, such as one month. There is a daily fee for the Respite Program. Respite is offered in each of the County of Elgin three long-term care homes, Bobier Villa, Elgin Manor and Terrace Lodge.

Individuals interested in accessing this program must apply through the Home and Community Care Support Services South West – St. Thomas Office. Elgin / St. Thomas office 519 631-9907 toll free 1800 563-3098 or to access their website click here.
