COVID-19 Updates – Essential Caregivers and General Visitors

While the Infection Prevention and Control measures in Long-Term Care Homes (LTCH’s) of masking, protective eyewear, physical distancing, resident and staff cohorting, visitor policy, and immunization have been highly effective in minimizing transmission of COVID-19, the Ministry of Long-Term Care (MLTC) has heard from families, residents and families within the current COVID-19 long-term care home experience.

On May 4, 2021, the Ministry of Long-term Care, provided information to Long-Term Care Homes regarding updates to Directive #3 and the new Ministry of Long-Term Care COVID-19 Guidance Document for LTCH’s in Ontario, to be implemented as soon as feasible.

May 2021 Elgin Homes Newsletter

With the heralding of warmer weather, many residents and their essential caregivers will wish to head outdoors to enjoy some fresh air, hear the birds and enjoy the gardens on the beautiful Elgin Homes grounds. The garden work has started and we can see spring and summer foliage awakening around us.

This year, we are required to ensure that we adhere to and follow local Municipal and Provincial COVID-19 guidelines that have been put in place to ensure the safety of the public as well as the residents, visitors and staff at the County of Elgin Homes.

COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Testing

Screening and testing for COVID-19 continues to play a central role in the battle against COVID-19. The Ministry of Long-Term Care (MLTC) has mandated screening and testing requirements for staff, residents, essential caregivers, general visitors and support workers to Long-Term Care Homes. Weekly PCR surveillance testing for visitors will be changing to on site “rapid antigen testing” (PanBio).
