King George VI Lift Bridge Rehabilitation

Location: Bridge Street (CR 4) over Kettle Creek in the Village of Port Stanley within the Municipality of Central Elgin

Project Description:

The King George VI Lift Bridge crossing Kettle Creek was constructed in 1938 and since then has undergone several repairs with the last repair in 2007.  Earlier this year a Detailed Condition Assessment and Load Limit Evaluation was completed to assess the structural, mechanical, and electrical condition of the bridge.  As a result of the existing condition of the bridge the County of Elgin retained the services of GM BluePlan Engineering Limited to complete the design and administration for the Rehabilitation of the King George VI Lift Bridge.

Public Consultation:

A Public Information Centre (PIC) will be held sometime in the Fall of 2019 to detail the expected rehabilitation works.  A future notice will include the date, time and location of the PIC.

Construction Detour:

A construction detour will be in place throughout the duration of the project for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians .  Local , business, and tourist traffic only access will be provided within the construction zone.  Resident, business, and beach access will be available via Warren Street (CR 21) to Carlow Road (CR 20) and back to Bridge Street (CR 4).

To the extent possible, at least one leaf of the bridge will remain open to allow in-water traffic clear passage.  There may be some delays to bridge operation while work on the bridge is being completed.  Warning signs will be posted for watercraft who need to be aware construction work is ongoing.
