The strike began shortly after 7 a.m. when about 200 men from the body build section of the assembly line left work. Ford employees from Oakville and Windsor have also walked out in an apparent protest against the union's move to change the strike deadline from today until next Monday. A union representative asked the St. Thomas strikers to return to work tomorrow morning. Production at the St. Thomas plant has been shut down for the day."

About 50 workers gathered at the roadside with signs protesting the plant's shutdown the week of April 5. The union says the timing of the shutdown eliminates the possibility of unemployment insurance benefits for about 2,000 plant workers."

1978

1979

The march was organized by United Auto Workers, Local 1520, which plans further protests to get action. The UAW earlier this year organized a protest to block Highway 401 just north of the St. Thomas Ford Assembly Plant."
