This Family Day, step back in time at the Elgin County Heritage Centre. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to use a green screen to transport themselves into one of five historic photos, representing iconic moments from Elgin County’s past. Guests can take home a free printed copy of their time-travelling image or receive a digital version via email.

In addition to this immersive experience, visitors can craft their own picture frames and embark on a museum-wide scavenger hunt. The Elgin County Heritage Centre will be open on Monday, February 17, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a fun-filled afternoon of history and creativity.

Guests are also invited to explore the Heritage Centre’s newest exhibit, Through the Lens. This exhibition takes a fascinating look back at Elgin County through the eyes of its photographers, showcasing a variety of historic cameras from the museum’s collection. The exhibit highlights different photographic processes, including daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, and glass plate negatives, while also featuring renowned local photography studios such as Scott Studio and Stollery Studio. Visitors will also learn about historic photographers like James H. Hopkins, A.E. Cantelon, and the Allen Brothers.

“Our community’s history is rich and diverse, and events like these allow families to connect with the past in a hands-on, engaging way,” said Warden Grant Jones. “We encourage everyone to come out, explore the exhibits, and experience the stories that have shaped Elgin County.”
