Meeks Bridge Replacement

Meeks Bridge Replacement

Project Description

The County of Elgin is undertaking a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, preliminary engineering, detailed design, contract administration for the replacement of the Meeks Bridge on Sparta Line (County Road 27), within the Township of Southwold. This project is being carried out under the planning and design process for a Schedule ‘B’ project as outlined in the Municipal Engineers Association’s Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (October 2000, as amended in 2007, 2011 and 2015).

The County’s Meeks Bridge which spans Kettle Creek was constructed in 1900 is a single span, steel double-intersection Warren truss (Double Warren) with verticals bridge structure. The bridge currently contains a posted load limit restriction of 8 tonnes.

The County of Elgin has retained CIMA Canada Inc., to evaluate rehabilitation OR replacement alternatives for this structure.  This evaluation of alternatives will determine the best solution to address the general structural deterioration of the bridge and accommodation for all users.

Public Input is welcome throughout the study.  One Public Information Centre will be held in 2020 to present the preferred alternative.  To provide comments, receive additional information or be added to the study mailing list, contact a team member.
