Meals on Wheels

The VON Meals On Wheels program promotes health and supports independence by delivering nutritious, affordable meals to seniors and adults with a disability living in their own home.  Hot meals are prepared by Terrace Lodge and Elgin Manor and delivered by VON volunteers to residents living in Aylmer, Malahide Township, Southwold Township, Sparta, Port Stanley, Union and Shedden.  Meals consist of a soup or salad, main entree and dessert and specialized diets may be accommodated.

Meals On Wheels are ideal for individuals who may have a difficult time preparing their own meals or even shopping for groceries and can be ordered for short or long periods of time.

For more information about accessing service or volunteering with the Meals On Wheels Program please call VON at 519-637-6408 or 1-800-201-0909 or visit our website at www.vonmiddlesexelgin.ca.

Respite Program

The Respite Program provides a period of relief for people who are responsible for the ongoing care of an adult or senior. Individuals may require a break or assistance to meet a loved ones ongoing care needs. Some individuals may need additional assistance as they recover following an illness or surgery.  The program is intended to give the caregiver an opportunity for a break in their care routine to re-energize, in order to resume their role.

Respite care can be accessed for up to 90 days per year, for short periods of time such as a weekend, or for longer periods, such as one month. There is a daily fee for the Respite Program. Respite is offered in each of the County of Elgin three long-term care homes, Bobier Villa, Elgin Manor and Terrace Lodge.
