Elgin County's young, progressive and growing community has long been attractive to families as well as empty-nesters and retirees. Our exceptional lifestyle opportunities continue attracting steady population growth. In 1996-2006, the latest decade reported by Statistics Canada, the annual population growth rate was 3.1 per cent.
In 2006 Elgin County had 49,235 residents. The census showed that people are dispersed throughout the County in towns, villages and the countryside.
Age levels are balanced, too. As the accompanying chart shows, the majority of County residents are between the ages of 25 and 64.
