During the war years, Donald Hume Anderson, President of Andersons Limited and owner/operator of the Anderson Department Store was gracious in sending letters and care packages to store employees who were injured and in convalescence. The gallery below features scanned excerpts from the letters these soldiers sent back to Mr. Anderson, expressing their thanks for the care packages sent to them. In the immediate post-war period, Mr. Anderson served as an officer of the St. Thomas-Elgin Rehabilitation Committee, helping returning soldiers adjust to civilian life. In this capacity, he frequently corresponded on the soldiers' behalf with government officials: a sample letter is included in the gallery below.
