McPhail New Elgin County Warden for 2019

CENTRAL ELGIN – Duncan McPhail was elected Warden of Elgin County at a session of Elgin County Council held on December 11, 2018.

McPhail, the Mayor of West Elgin ran against fellow Councillor Dave Mennill, Mayor of Malahide.

McPhail will be heading into County Council after a 16 year absence, and this will be his second term as County Warden. He previously held the honour in 2000. He takes over the gavel from Past Warden David Marr, former Mayor of Central Elgin.

Warden McPhail stated he is excited to work with the new Council and is motivated to work with the two councillors of the past (Marks, Purcell), the three councillors of the present (Jones, Martyn, Mennill) and the three councillors new to the County seats (French, Giguère, and Ketchabaw).

The Warden mentioned how he believes in CAO Gonyou’s progressive vision and knows that her talent and work ethic will help serve Council over the next four years.

McPhail identified the start of construction on the new Terrace Lodge building, a new bridge in Port Bruce, and ensuring that high speed internet services are available across the County as top priorities over the next year.
