Elgin County Warden David Marr presented Leesa Shanley, POA Supervisor with an award from the Municipal Court Managers’ Association (MCMA). Ms. Shanley was presented with the 2018 Commitment to the Organization Award for her dedication to advocate for the organization, her positive contribution to improvement, her engagement, involvement and selflessness. Ms. Shanley has worked in the Ontario Justice System for over 28 years; nearly 15 of those have been with the County of Elgin. Her experience and detailed knowledge of court operation and willingness to mentor her peers made her the perfect candidate for this award.
At its meetings held on July 24, 2018 and August 14, 2018 Elgin County Council renewed contracts with the West Elgin Community Health Centre and the Victorian Order of Nurses to provide meals on wheels to senior residents in Elgin County. Bobier Villa, in partnership with West Elgin Community Health Centre provides meals on wheels to seniors in West Elgin communities and Terrace Lodge and Elgin Manor, in partnership with Victorian Order of Nurses, provide meals on wheels to seniors in Central and East Elgin communities. Providing a nutritional meal service to community residents continues to be a valuable and needed service.
The Elgin County Archives has received a bequest of $50,000 and the Elgin County Museum has received a bequest of $10,000 to support future projects related to the Alma College collections maintained by both institutions. Alma College is the former independent school for young women that operated in St. Thomas for over a century. Both the archives and museum have substantial collections relating to the college and continue to actively collect in this area. The funds will be utilized to support future projects such as digitization and preservation activities.
